| | contemplative | ] | I've been pleased to find that (after a brief period), the maintainer seems to have honored my withdrawal and is not using my work anymore. This is a good sign. I think she may also be beginning to realize just how much of the game was being carried by me; while I don't think it would be a good idea for us to try to work together again, at least not in this situation, I really do hope it helps her to appreciate player activity. She seems to be aware of the difference since I left, at least. Given her "surprise" at learning I'd left the game when she gave me no other choice, I'm not sure how well the lesson will stay with her.
Unfortunately the game has had to take a hiatus due to its lack of momentum, but since it probably shouldn't have begun until we had more players anyhow, perhaps that will work out well in the long run. She still seems to not understand her responsibility as a game master, though, and complained about the lack of player participation instead of giving them impetus. Either she'll figure it out, she'll find someone else like me who'll try to do it for her, or the game will slowly die an ugly death... I really hope not the last. There's such a lack of good rp communities, and a lot of that is because of past failures and people unwilling to trust that they can work and be a *lot* of fun when they're done right. She wasn't a bad roleplayer, just a bad GM. If she can figure out the GM responsibilites and involve the players with the planning side, it really could be a great community and game.
I'm glad that I left so early into things; they still can start over very easily. I'm glad that she's no longer trying to recreate the old storyline (although she seems to be trying to summarize and continue now, which still really isn't the best idea). It really should have a fresh start so that all the players can be involved from the beginning, instead of the lopsided beginning we had. Plus, she has an excellent chance to fix the mistakes she made the first time around in running the game, and the hiatus will give her time to fill in the areas of the storyline that she hadn't considered and planned for. It would have been a much harder decision to make if we'd gone further, but I'm not sure she would have given me any other choice.
While my experience turned out very badly (on all sides), I still have some hope left that they'll be successful, and so I'll probably peek in from time to time after it begins again. |

the_xander has withdrawn from the aiandscoobies community due to circumstances with the community owner. I will no longer continue to contribute to it or it's associated communities, and prefer for my past contributions to be removed due to the nature of my withdrawal. Of course, I don't expect her to comply with these wishes.
If anyone else wishes to contact me with questions arising from my withdrawal from the game, this entry will remain for a time to allow you to reach me. |
